Sump Pump Program

The City of Slayton has passed Code §51.33 relating to the use of sump pump systems within City limits.  The ordinance requires every building in Slayton to be in compliance by November 1, of each year or receive a $75.00 penalty.  This means that no sump pump, roof runoff, or surface water drainage can be placed into the sanitary sewer.  There is an exception for sump pumps from November 1 - March 31 with a permit.

We will be inspecting each home and building to assure compliance.  A city employee will be contacting you to verify the information you have provided in your survey and to certify your system.

For those not in compliance, we will try to identify how to remedy your situation and work with you to reach compliance.

On November 10, of this year:  we will begin assessing the $75.00 penalty for those not in compliance.
